BONGAIGAON. In a significant milestone reinforcing its commitment to workplace safety, NTPC Limited has been granted an Indian patent for its pioneering invention, “A Method and a System for Accessing Electrical Breaker Modules.” Developed by NTPC engineers Sandeep Kumar, Gnyanankur Sonowal, and Ashutosh Kumar, the technology introduces a smart access control system for switchgear installations. By seamlessly integrating with SAP and Permit-to-Work systems, this innovative solution employs multi-factor authentication and digital interlocking mechanisms to ensure that only authorized personnel can access designated breaker modules.
The breakthrough system significantly enhances operational safety by eliminating human error, preventing operational duplicity, and ensuring the correct electrical equipment is isolated during maintenance. By leveraging data-driven controls and digital technologies, this indigenous innovation strengthens compliance with strict maintenance protocols. The achievement underscores NTPC’s ongoing drive toward digital transformation, technological excellence, and the highest standards of workplace safety as India’s largest integrated power utility.
