NTPC has met and surpassed the government’s 5% biomass co-firing mandate for FY25. In May 2024, NTPC successfully co-fired 20% torrefied biomass with coal at the Tanda Plant, marking India’s first such achievement.
Biomass co-firing, the process of blending biomass with coal, helps reduce CO2 emissions and address air pollution caused by stubble burning. This milestone not only showcases NTPC’s technological expertise but also reinforces its commitment to decarbonising thermal power plants and advancing its Net Zero Emission goals.
This achievement stands as a testament to NTPC’s dedication to sustainable progress and energy innovation.
