NTPC Bongaigaon Football Club Celebrates Championship Victory in A Division League

NTPC Bongaigaon Football Club, formed in 2014 under the company’s CSR and Sports Council initiatives, has emerged as a symbol of rural football talent development in the Bodoland and North East regions. Over the years, the club has grown from an in-house team into a vibrant platform for nurturing young players from nearby rural areas such as Salakati and Kokrajhar. This commitment to promoting local football culture was further highlighted this year as NTPC FC sponsored by NTPC Bongaigaon, clinched the Champion Trophy in the A Division Inter Club Football League 2025 organised by the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA). The team remained unbeaten throughout the season, playing nine matches with seven wins and two draws, earning a total of 23 points and securing promotion to the Super Division League. The league, which commenced on June 13, 2025, witnessed the emergence of talented players like Dinti Hazowary and Dhananjay Brahma, who scored eight goals each, showcasing the club’s growing talent pool.

The victory was made possible through structured training initiatives coordinated by the NTPC Bongaigaon Sports Council in collaboration with KDSA, which brought in professional coaching to complement the raw talent of rural youth. The success story was celebrated as Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project at NTPC Bongaigaon, received the Champion Trophy and lauded the team’s dedication, discipline, and inspiring journey from grassroots to glory. The event was attended by senior officials, including Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, representatives from the NTPC Sports Council, and union and association members, who collectively congratulated the players for bringing honor to NTPC and their local communities.
