No Oil Spill Damage Near Uran: Oil Spill Response team prevented oil from entering the sea

New Delhi : Farmers and fishers have suffered no harm as a result of the recent tiny oil leak at Uran Beach. A little amount of oil leaked from one of the crude oil storage tanks at the ONGC Uran Plant early on September 8, 2023. The leaking oil reached the stormwater drain channel as a result of heavy rainfall. Because the amount of oil leaking from the plant area was small, the oil became trapped between rocks on the beach, with just traces reaching the coastline.

The ONGC Oil Spill Response (OSR) team was immediately dispatched to prevent oil from entering the sea, and cleanup of the coastline began on a war footing.

Cleaning took a long time due to heavy rains on the day of the occurrence and the beach being a rough location. The oil did not reach the water due to the ONGC team’s prompt and hard efforts, and no harm to marine life is expected.

Furthermore, nearby villagers had made an illicit water connection to their fields by breaking the Plant’s storm water drain channel wall for irrigation reasons. Because of this break, only 4-5 paddy fields received a limited amount of oil. Damage to paddy crops is also minimal.

Because the tiny oil leak occurred on the rocky area of the beach, no fisherman were harmed.

ONGC’s prompt and aggressive steps to clear oil from the beach and drain pipes resulted in an early restoration that is currently approaching completion.
