NMDC commemorates Gandhi Jayanti

Bengaluru, 3 October 2024: NMDC honours Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary with a series of events, promoting cleanliness, responsibility and sustainability. Shri Amitava Mukherjee CMD (Addl. Charge) and Shri Vinay Kumar Director (Technical) & (Production and Personnel, Addl. Charge) led the celebrations at the NMDC head office in Hyderabad.

The event began with a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, where employees paid respects and reaffirmed their commitment to his ideals. This was followed by a Swachhata Pledge, where employees vowed to uphold cleanliness and sanitation at their workplaces and communities. NMDC also felicitated Safai Mitras, cleanliness ambassadors and recognized their tireless efforts in diligently maintaining a clean work environment. The program concluded with a Cleanliness Drive, symbolizing NMDC’s dedication to a sustainable future.

Shri Amitava Mukherjee, CMD (Addl. Charge) NMDC emphasized on the importance of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, particularly as the movement celebrates a decade of transformative work. “When Mahatma Gandhi said “Swaraj ought to begin with our streets,” he ignited this movement where a clean mind is at the very heart of dreaming big; an imperative to become an Independent India then and to become an Atmanirbhar Bharat now,” he said.

He further added, “Swachh Bharat is a powerful and divine movement that is passed on to us as a legacy and as an agency to be the change we wish to see in the world. We too have entered our era of transformation. The path ahead to becoming a 100 million tonnes global mining company is ambitious and daunting. We too need to embrace a behavioral change in our mindset. Responsible Mining will be at the core of Vision 2030. Responsibility towards the industry, the community, the environment, and the nation will thrive in a clean mind.”

This event reinforced NMDC’s values of social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and continues to support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for a cleaner and greener nation.
