NLCIL Mines have been accorded the Star at the National level.

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has been honored with prestigious 5 Star and 4 Star ratings for its operational mines by the Ministry of Coal at a national level.

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has been honored with prestigious 5 Star and 4 Star ratings for its operational mines by the Ministry of Coal at a national level. The awards were presented by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Union Minister of State Satish Chandra Dubey on October 21, 2024, at the Scope Convention Centre in New Delhi. Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLCIL, and Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Mines) & Director (P&P) AC, along with the heads of the respective mines accepted the awards. The Ministry’s Star Rating Policy aims to enhance performance and sustainability in the coal and lignite sector by promoting transparency, accountability, and competition among producers through a comprehensive framework that evaluates various operational and environmental metrics.

For the Financial Year 2022-23, star ratings were conducted for 380 participating mines, with results announced in April 2024. Out of these, an impressive 43 mines achieved a Five-Star Rating, and notably, 80% of NLCIL’s operational mines—including Barsingsar Lignite Mine, Lignite Mine IA, Lignite Mine I, and Talabira II & III OCP—secured this distinction. Additionally, Lignite Mine-II achieved a 4 Star rating. Barsingsar Lignite Mine ranked second nationally, while Lignite Mine IA secured seventh position, underscoring NLCIL’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainability initiatives within the industry.
