In a noteworthy development towards fostering innovation and indigenization, NHPC and BEML Ltd. signed a MoU on December 16, 2024, at BEML Soudha in Bangalore. This strategic partnership is aimed at advancing desilting and dredging solutions tailored for hydroelectric power plants, addressing the pressing issue of dam sedimentation. The MoU was signed by Uday Shanker Sahi, Executive Director (R&D) of NHPC, and RGK Rao, Head of SBU – Aerospace of BEML Ltd., with key officials from both organizations in attendance.
The collaboration emphasizes the commitment of NHPC and BEML to deliver “Make in India” solutions that enhance power generation efficiency, prolong the lifespan of water conductor systems and turbines, and yield substantial savings for the national exchequer. The innovative solutions developed under this initiative will not only serve hydroelectric power plants but also offer dual-use potential for urban water management, aiding in urban de-siltation, dredging operations in inland waterways, and addressing flooding risks. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals under the Maritime Vision 2030 and Sagarmala programs, further contributing to sustainable urban planning and water management.
