The enterprising employees of the Lime Dolomite Brick Plant (LDBP) have successful installed a chimney and helped in revival of Hydraulic Brick Press No-5 and upgraded PLC system. Mr. B.R. Palai, ED (Works) inaugurated the facilities at a function held in the Department on 19th March. Present on the occasion were Mr. R. K. Patra, CGM (Quality), Mr. R.K. Muduli, CGM (Electrical), Mr. S Kartha, CGM (SMS-1), Ms. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety), Mr. N R Das, GM In-charge (LDBP) along with other senior executives and employees of the plant.
The brick press, which had been non-operational since March 2023, was restored to full functionality with the assistance of the Original Equipment Manufacturer M/s Laies, Germany. The repair work included civil foundation restoration, replacement of damaged structures and equipment, with a total investment of Rs.5.5 crores. With the commissioning of this brick press, Magnesia-Carbon bricks will now be supplied for converters of SMS-1 & SMS-2, as well as for steel ladles of SMS-1 & SMS-2, ensuring improved refractory supply and operational efficiency.
As part of the continuous quality improvement initiatives, the PLC system of the Tempering Kiln was upgraded by M/s Vincent Engineering. This upgradation is expected to enhance brick quality and improve process automation.
Another significant development was the installation of Dust Extraction System equipped with a 40-meter-high chimney. This system is designed to enhance environmental sustainability by effectively controlling dust emissions at the LDBP, contributing towards a cleaner and greener workplace.
