This year 14 lakh 73 thousand appeared for the medical entrance exam on September 13 despite the covid 19 . The merit list is yet to be out and will be displayed soon. Every college will release its own cut-off based on which the admission will be granted.
Since last year, top medical colleges AIIMS and JIPMER are also accepting students based on the NEET score. Earlier, they used to have their own entrance test. Every medical college has 15 per cent seats reserved under the All India quota (AIQ) which are filled centrally while the rest are filled by the respective state.
The number of students who appeared this year and subsequently qualified is lesser than that of last year. In 2019, a total of 14,10,755 students appeared for NEET while this year, the number has declined to 13,66,945 despite a rise in the number of registrations. Further, the number of students qualifying has been dropped from 7.97 lakh last year to 77.15 lakh this year.
A total of 7,71,500 candidates have qualified the exam for which over 13.66 lakh candidates had appeared. The highest number of qualifying candidates is from Tripura (88,889) followed by Maharashtra (79,974).
Most of the candidates – 79% – appeared for the exam in English followed 12.8% or 2,04,399 who opted for the exam in Hindi. A total of 1,29,763 candidates registered to appear for the exam in regional languages ranging from Assamese to Bengali to Marathi and others.
