SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) joined the rest of the Nation in observing the “National Fire Services Day” on 14th April. The day also marks the commencement of the Fire Services Week that will be observed from 14th to 20th April. Mr. Alok Verma, DIC was the Chief Guest of the function organized at the Central Fire Station of Fire Services department. Mr. R K Patra, CGM (Quality) & acting ED (Works), Ms. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Service) and Mr. J B Pattnaik, GM (Fire Service) were present on the dais. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Dr. Jayanta Kumar Acharya, CMO In-Charge (M&HS), many CGMs along with many other senior officers and employees of the plant and Fire Services department were also present on the occasion.
The DIC unfurled the Fire Services flag and inspected the Guard of Honour. He as well as the other dignitaries laid wreath on the martyr’s memorial to commemorate the sacrifice of the 66 gallant fire fighters who laid down their live to save the life and properties during a devastating fire incident that took place at Victoria Dock, the erstwhile Bombay Port on this day in the year 1944.
Elaborating on the theme for Fire Service Week 2025, the DIC said, “The theme “Unite to Ignite: A Fire Safe India” powerfully emphasizes the importance of collective responsibility and action in ensuring fire safety. It serves as a reminder that fire prevention is not solely the duty of fire fighting personnel but a shared commitment across all levels of the organization and society.” He urged the Fire Services Team to continue their vigilant and proactive approach, especially in the implementation of preventive measures, to help us achieve the target of zero fire incidents in the plant.
He also released a leaflet on ‘Fire Prevention’ brought out to mark the occasion.
The programme commenced with the administration of National Fire Services pledges in Odia, Hindi and English.
The DIC later flagged off the ‘Fire Safety’ convoy bearing banners and posters on Fire Safety with added miking facility for creating mass awareness in the Industrial township.
It is noteworthy that the National Fire Services Week celebrations have commenced with the National Fire Services Day. During the week awareness and fire fighting programmes will be organized in different places by Fire Services department of RSP. Mr. Mangesh Sonkusare, DGM (Fire Services) coordinated the programme.
