A mock drill on Blast Furnaces gas leakage was organized at the U-seal area of HP Boiler-5, Captive Power Plant (CPP-1) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 12th March, 2025, to enhance emergency preparedness and ensure readiness for any eventuality arising from a gas leakage. As part of a statutory requirement, the exercise was carried out to assess the efficacy of RSP’s onsite disaster management system and the preparedness of the personnel involved.
The mock drill commenced at 11:11 AM, and the situation was declared under control by the site incident controller, Mr. N.C. Parida, GM (O&M), CPP-1, at 11:30 AM. The entire group was divided into three teams: Combat Team, Rescue Team, and Auxiliary Team.
All teams efficiently executed their respective roles and successfully completed the exercise within 19 minutes. The drill was observed by senior officials, including Mr. J.B. Pattanaik, GM, Fire Services and Mr. Sonkusare, DGM, Fire Services, along with representatives from Safety, Fire Services, OHSC, CISF, and CPP-1. The CISF team played a pivotal role in securing the area, ensuring safe execution and maintaining order.
Following the exercise, a review session was conducted by GM (O&M), CPP-1, and GM (Fire Services), where senior officers acknowledged the effectiveness of the drill and recommended improvements in certain areas. The exercise was coordinated by Mr. Raghuveer Singh, Senior Manager & DSO, CPP-1, Mr. T.L. Patel, Senior Manager, CPP-1, and Mr. Ritesh Patel, ASO (Safety Engineering), under the guidance of Mr. N.C. Parida. The collective participation of CPP-1 and all associated departments contributed to the successful execution of the drill with great enthusiasm.
