Megha Mallhar, an evening of Dance & Music heralding the monsoons was organised at the Spectrum Hall, Rourkela Club by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 15th June to mark the popular festival ‘Raja Utsav’. Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), RSP was the Chief Guest of the function. Mr. Ashwini Kumar, former CEO, RSP and Mrs. Sabita Kumari, former President, Deepika Mahila Sanghati (DMS) were the special invited guests on the occasion. Mrs. Seema Dev Bhowmick, President, DMS, Mr. Alok Verma, ED (Mines), Mr. A K Behuria, ED (F&A), Mr. Ratan Kumar, DIG, CISF, Mrs. Harshala Suryawanshi, Mrs. Namrata Verma  all Vice Presidents of DMS, Mr. P K Swain, CGM (TA &CSR), other Senior Officers of the plant with their spouses, members of several socio-cultural organisations and many culture enthusiasts were present on the occasion.

The DIC accompanied by all the dignitaries lighted the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the evening. The Rourkela Club adorned a festive look with embellishment of symbols associated with the traditional Raja Utsav.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bhowmick elaborated the significance of the Raja festival and said, “Vibrant and colorful cultural programs like these not only preserve our cherished traditions but also connect our youth with their roots.” He reiterated RSP’s commitment to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of the land.

The cultural segment unfolded with a mesmerizing Odissi Dance recital by the artists of Bhanja Kala Kendra. It was followed by spellbinding folk and contemporary dance performances presented by artistes of Music Circle, Bhanja Kala Kendra and Sagar Rhythm which showcased the various nuances of the festival. The fun and festivities, games and merrymaking associated with Raja festival and the joy at the onset of the monsoons after the harsh summer was splendidly depicted through the beautifully choreographed dances.

Mr. Anil Mallick, MOMT, CRM anchored the show. The Social Welfare Department of RSP efficiently coordinated the function.
