The Materials Recovery Department (MRD) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved a remarkable benchmark by crossing 1 lakh tons of BOF slag disposal in the month of August 2025. On 28th August, the department surpassed the milestone with its highest-ever single-day disposal of 201 trips weighing 5,620 tons, surpassing its previous record of 196 trips and 5,473 tons set on 23rd August, 2025.
This landmark achievement not only reflects MRD’s operational excellence but also underlines its growing consistency, with a series of record-breaking performances in recent weeks. In fact, the department had set three single-day dispatch records in July 2025, showcasing its sustained momentum and efficiency.
The success was made possible by the collective dedication of Team MRD, complemented by the seamless support of associated departments including Marketing, HR, Power Distribution, E&A, PP&C, Civil Engineering Services, CISF, and other service units.
It is significant to note that MRD plays a crucial role in RSP’s sustainability journey by ensuring efficient management of by-products such as BOF slag. The systematic disposal not only reduces environmental load but also generates valuable revenue, contributing to resource optimization and aligning with the plant’s long-term vision of green steelmaking.
