Public Health Unit of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) have launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to combat the spread of dengue in the steel township. Mr. Purushottam Naik, Additional Tahsildar, Bisra, Mr. Amulya Ratna Sahu, Additional Tahsildar, Rourkela, Mr. Bikash Bhoi, Assistant Collector, Panposh, Ms. Nibedita Pradhan, Tahsildar, Rourkela, and Mr. R C Naik, Additional Tahsildar, Lathikata led the campaign in different areas. 50 dedicated members form RSP and 50 members from RMC including Doctors and Health Officers worked together in the campaign held across Sector- 13, 14, 16, 4, and 1, of the steel township.
The campaign focused on a range of activities aimed at preventing the breeding of mosquitoes, which are responsible for the transmission of dengue. Volunteers engaged in extensive bush cutting and the destruction of potential larvae breeding sites. They also carried out door-to-door awareness drives, educating residents about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and taking preventive measures against mosquito bites. The medical professionals, including doctors provided crucial health advice and information about dengue symptoms and treatment.
It is noteworthy to mention that Public Health Unit of Town Engineering Department has deployed 50 volunteers chosen from the plant to conduct the house to house survey and spread awareness for prevention of dengue. The volunteers have been assigned the job of ensuring completion of the survey in 15 days and assess the factors responsible for transmission of dengue and prioritizing areas for vector control.
