The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, has disbursed a margin money subsidy of Rs 300 crore to 8,794 beneficiaries across the country through a virtual program organized on Tuesday under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). This disbursement was made against a loan sanction of approximately Rs 884 crore. The event took place at KVIC’s Central Office in Vile Parle (West), Mumbai, where KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar digitally released the subsidy to the beneficiaries in the presence of KVIC CEO Ms. Roop Rashi and other senior officers.
During the program, Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar highlighted the significance of the PMEGP scheme, emphasizing its role in fostering self-employment and entrepreneurship under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He stated that Khadi and Village Industries are not merely products but embody the vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” creating a strong foundation for rural and urban livelihoods. The scheme has successfully generated employment for lakhs of youth, connecting them with entrepreneurial opportunities and reinforcing the government’s commitment to economic self-reliance.
Region-wise disbursements showcased the scheme’s broad impact across India, with Rs 91.13 crore allocated to 2,366 projects in the Central Zone (Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand), Rs 62.68 crore to 2,167 projects in Eastern India (Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Northeast states), Rs 41.80 crore for 1,320 projects in Northern India (Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan), and Rs 24.12 crore for 496 projects in Western India (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa). Since its inception till FY 2024-25, PMEGP has established over 10 lakh micro enterprises with a sanctioned loan of Rs 73,348 crore and a margin money subsidy of Rs 27,166 crore, directly and indirectly creating employment for more than 90 million people, thus solidifying its role as a key driver of rural and urban entrepreneurship in India.
