NEW DELHI. Smt. Jaya Verma Sinha, a distinguished officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), 1988 batch, has been appointed as the Information Commissioner (IC) by the Government of India. With an illustrious career spanning over 35 years, Smt. Sinha has made significant contributions in various critical domains including operations, commercial, IT, vigilance, and international railway cooperation.
She made history as the first woman to serve as Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board under the Ministry of Railways, exemplifying exceptional leadership and administrative acumen. Her notable roles also include key leadership positions at the South-Eastern Railway (SER) and as Railway Advisor in Bangladesh, showcasing her trailblazing career and commitment to excellence in railway management.
Her appointment as Information Commissioner is seen as a recognition of her vast experience and dedication to public service, and she is expected to bring her expertise and integrity to this important role.
