IRCON International to commence railway upgradation work on Sri Lanka Railways

IRCON International Limited will commence railway upgradation work on the northern line of Sri Lanka Railways from January, 2024. The railways department has announced the temporary suspension of train services between Colombo and Jaffna due to the track upgrade work. Earlier this year, IRCON had completed the first phase of the upgrade on the 48 km Anuradhapura-Omanthai section of the northern line.

 

The railway department in a notice said that the 2nd phase of the scheduled maintenance work in the northern railway line will be carried out on the 65 km Maho-Anuradhapura section. The total cost of the project is 91.27 Million dollars.

 

The maintenance work will be carried out from 7th of January and expected to be completed within a period of 6 months.
