‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ was observed on 3rd December at Home & Hope an institute for the differently abled running under the patronage of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, RSP and President of Home and Hope was the Chief Guest of the function. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. Alok Verma, ED In-Charge (Works), Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Operation), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. Sudip Palchowdhury, ED (Projects), Dr Jayant Acharya, CMO Incharge (M&HS) and Mr. P K Swain, CGM Incharge (TA& CSR), graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Mrs. Prabhati Misra and Mrs. Namrata Verma, both Vice Presidents of Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mr. G S Das, CGM (Projects – Commercial) and Joint Secretary, Hope and Hope and many other Senior Officers of RSP, members of Deepika Mahila Sanghati, members of Parents’ Association, large number of students and teachers of Home & Hope and Asha as well as parents were present on the occasion. It is noteworthy that the theme of this year’s celebrations is ‘Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.’
The function commenced with lighting up of the ceremonial lamp. Addressing the gathering Mr. Bhowmick said that he has witnessed the growth of the Institute over the years, and the yeoman service being provided by the organization to persons with disabilities. He also reiterated the commitment of RSP to extend support in the growth of the organisation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Misra expressed his happiness over returning to be amidst the students of the Institute and also elaborated about the plans to conduct visit of the students to IG Park and holding a cultural programme for them at Civic Centre.
Mr. Alok Verma underlined the hidden talents of differently abled persons and assured that Rourkelites would be with the institute whenever required.
In his insightful address, Dr. Jayant Acharya elaborated about prevention of disabilities, by taking proactive steps, and also raising children with disabilities.
During the function the dignitaries presented awards and Trophies to the students of Home and Hope for their outstanding achievements in various extracurricular activities.
A beautiful cultural programme was presented by the students of Home & Hope and Asha. Earlier the dignitaries visited an exhibition showcasing Arts and Craft items prepared by the students. Ms. Padmini Das, Principal, Home & Hope delivered the welcome address. Mr. G S Das, proposed a formal Vote of Thanks, while Mr. Nirmala Chandra Das, Senior Manager (F&A) and Treasurer of Home & Hope coordinated the function.
In the morning Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), RSP flagged off a rally of students as well as teachers of various schools that started from Bhanja Bhawan and reached Home & Hope. Many senior officers and employees of RSP also took part in the rally. Later Mr. Misra also hoisted the flag in the Institute’s premises.
