India’s electric mobility sector has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing one million electric vehicle (EV) sales in the financial year 2024-25. This surge is fueled by government initiatives, advancements in technology, and a growing awareness of environmental issues. According to reports, a total of 11,49,334 electric two-wheelers (e-2W) were sold, representing a 21% increase from the 9,48,561 units sold in FY 2023-24. Furthermore, electric three-wheeler (e-3W) sales reached 1,59,235 units in FY 2024-25, marking a remarkable 57% growth compared to the previous year’s sales of 1,01,581 units.
The success of the PM E-DRIVE scheme is evident with 10,10,101 e-2Ws and 1,22,982 e-3Ws (L5) registered on the VAHAN portal during FY 2024-25. The environmental benefits of this initiative are noteworthy, with fuel savings totaling 15,77,33,334 liters and a daily reduction of 8,55,723 liters of fuel consumption. Additionally, the scheme has led to a substantial decrease in carbon emissions, with total CO2 reduction reaching 23,01,73,978 kg and a daily reduction of 12,48,100 kg, highlighting the positive impact of electric mobility on the environment as India strides towards a greener future.
