On August 29, 2024, India’s second Arihant-Class nuclear submarine, ‘INS Arighaat,’ was officially commissioned into the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam. The ceremony was graced by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, who expressed confidence that INS Arighaat will significantly bolster India’s nuclear triad, enhance nuclear deterrence, and contribute to establishing strategic balance and peace in the region. He hailed the submarine as a monumental achievement for the nation and a testament to the unwavering resolve of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led government to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence.
The construction of INS Arighaat is a remarkable feat, involving the use of advanced design and manufacturing technologies, meticulous research and development, specialized materials, and complex engineering. The submarine is equipped with indigenous systems and equipment conceptualized, designed, manufactured, and integrated by Indian scientists, industry experts, and Naval personnel.
INS Arighaat represents a significant technological advancement over its predecessor, INS Arihant. The commissioning of both submarines marks a major enhancement of India’s ability to deter potential adversaries and safeguard national interests.
