Civil Aviation Ministry Launches Hub and Spoke International Flight Model from Amritsar

Hub and Spoke International Flight Model Amritsar

NEW DELHI. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has officially launched Hub and Spoke International Flight Operations from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, marking a major milestone in transforming India into a global aviation hub. Under this framework, Delhi will function as the central hub while Amritsar serves as a key international gateway for passengers traveling from Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. Inaugurated in the presence of Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and senior ministry officials, the initiative enables international passengers to complete check-in, customs clearance, and immigration formalities directly at Amritsar Airport before seamlessly connecting through Delhi to over 20 global destinations with a single baggage tag.

Highlighting the broader economic and regional significance of the rollout, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu described the Hub and Spoke framework as an opportunity model rather than a mere aviation structure. He noted that Amritsar, with its deep diaspora connections and strong regional catchment, stands to benefit immensely from direct, simplified access to global travel networks. Following the successful initial launch in Varanasi, Amritsar becomes the second airport integrated into this nationwide strategy, which aims to boost regional tourism, ease long-haul transit for overseas travelers, and solidify India’s position in global civil aviation.
