Delhi’s Chief Minister, Smt. Rekha Gupta, inaugurated the new state-of-the-art Delhi Metro Museum at the Supreme Court Metro Station today. The event was also graced by Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Transport, and Information Technology, Govt. of Delhi, along with Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD, DMRC, and other senior officials.
After its formal inauguration today, this new museum will be opened for the public from 19th December 2025 (Friday) onwards. The operational timing of the museum will be from 10 am to 4 pm. The museum will remain open from Tuesday to Sunday, and on Mondays and public holidays it will remain closed. Initially, an extremely reasonable entry fee of ₹ 10 per person has been fixed to attract more visitors.
While appreciating the Delhi Metro Museum, the Hon’ble Chief Minister said, “museums do not merely showcase history — they reflect the decisions that were made, the vision behind those decisions, and the path shown to future generations. The creation of this museum today will serve as a powerful example of expert engineering by Delhi Metro for our children.”
Congratulating Delhi Metro on the inauguration of the Metro Museum, Hon’ble Minister Dr. Singh said, “Delhi has now truly become a city of museums. Institutions like the National Museum and the Prime Ministers’ Museum beautifully showcase the golden history and glorious heritage of our great nation. In this series, today this Metro Rail Museum is also going to secure its place among Delhi’s major tourist attractions.”
Spread across approximately 12,000 square feet in its first phase, the Delhi Metro museum has been designed in line with the finest Metro Museums worldwide, offering advanced display platforms and interactive experiences for visitors. It is also easily accessible for visitors as the Supreme Court Metro station is located on the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro network. Being close to important city landmarks such as Bharat Mandapam and Supreme Court, the museum is also conveniently accessible by road.
The museum features simulators that provide a real-world feel of driving a metro train, working models of the Tunnel Boring Machine and Launching Girder, and interactive digital displays where visitors can play games and learn how the Metro is constructed. Quiz show screens, selfie points, and souvenir shops add to the participative atmosphere, while static models and exhibits highlight various other aspects of the Metro’s functioning.
A dedicated panel on Metroman Dr. E. Sreedharan, a mock metro tunnel, and a model of the Operations Control Centre further enrich the experience. Dioramas depicting Delhi’s landmarks, a photo gallery of visits by dignitaries, and panels on major milestones in the Metro’s history provide a comprehensive overview of the system’s evolution. In total, more than 50 panels, exhibits, and kiosks and models have been installed, with Phase 2 expansions set to introduce newer displays and innovations in the near future.
The Delhi Metro Museum traces its origins to 2008, when the idea of chronicling the journey of India’s most advanced urban transit system was first conceived. On 31st December 2008, the country’s first-ever Metro Rail Museum was inaugurated at Patel Chowk Metro Station, marking a historic milestone as the only such facility in the entire South Asian region. Presented as a New Year’s gift to the people of the national capital, the museum quickly became a popular destination for commuters and visitors alike.
The Patel Chowk Metro museum attracted about 5,000 students from schools, colleges from across the world every year. With the opening of this new Metro Museum at Supreme Court, the Patel Chowk based museum has now been closed.
