A colourful function was organised by the Nurses Training Institute (NTI) of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) at Civic Centre to celebrate International Nurses Day on 12th May. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), RSP graced the function as Chief Guest. Dr. Jayant Kumar Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS) was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Sonia Joshi, Additional CMO (M&HS) and In-charge NTI and Ms. Bidyut Prabha Goth, Principal, NTI also shared the dais. The other distinguished guests included Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. T G Kanekar, CGM (Town Services & CSR), Dr. Pratibha Sadangi, CMO (Medical) and, Chief General Managers. Many Senior Doctors and, nurses and staff of both IGH as well as Apollo Managing IPGI & Super Specialty Hospital, along with students of NTI and guardian were present on the occasion.
The programme commenced with the dignitaries lighting the ceremonial lamp and paying floral tributes to Florence Nightingale, the founder of Modern Nursing. Mr. Misra applauded the long standing history of RSP in training Nurses, the essential health care providers and commended the Principal and Staff of our Nurses Training Institute for their excellent service in grooming the young nurse-trainees. Referring to this year’s Nurses Day Theme, i.e. “Our Nurses Our Future: Caring for nurses strengthens economies” Dr. Acharya said that investing in the well-being, training, and professional development of nurses is not just a healthcare priority but a critical economic strategy.
A special Lamp lighting and Oath taking ceremony was also organised for the 76th Batch of GNM 2025 Nursing students in which the new entrants who have successfully completed their probation period lighted the candle and took the Florence Nightingale pledge. Ms. Rashmi Soreng, Senior Sister Tutor (NTI) administered the oath.
The dignitaries distributed the awards to the students for academic achievements as well as extracurricular activities. Winners of the competition held earlier specially under the faculty category were also awarded.
Dr. Sonia Joshi, welcomed the gathering while Ms. Bidyut Prabha Goth, presented the Annual Report of the institute. Ms. Prativa Kheti, Sister Tutor (NTI) proposed a formal vote of thanks. Ms. Lucy Anima Tirkey, Senior Sister Tutor (NTI) coordinated the event along with Ms. Ameya Gokhura, Manager (Nursing Administration) and Matron and Ms. Meera Pati, Assistant Manager and Matron and the NTI team. The meeting was followed by a colourful cultural program.
The nursing fraternity of IGH celebrated the International Nurses Day at the Apollo Managing IPGI & Super Specialty Hospital auditorium on 12th May. Dr. Jaynta Acharya, was the Chief Guest of the function. Present on the occasion were Dr. Archana Behera, Additional CMO (M&HS), Mr. Durga Madhab Tripathy, President (Trained Nurses Association of India), other Senior Doctors, nurses and staff of IGH.

A vibrant cultural program marked the occasion, featuring a captivating saxophone performance by the CMO In-charge and an impressive health education group performance.
