The Government of India has approved the Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd. (ASHVINI), a joint venture between Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and NTPC Ltd., to build, own, and operate nuclear power plants in the country. The Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (4×700 MWe) will be transferred to the JV, utilizing indigenous PHWR technology. The government has also granted investment exemptions to NPCIL and NTPC, enabling financing for accelerated nuclear power expansion. ASHVINI will focus on multiple nuclear projects to support India’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070.
