Enhancing Contract Excellence: on Legal Aspects and Contract Closure

A seminar on “Contract Management – Legal Aspects and Contract Closure” was held at Coal India’s Corporate Office in Kolkata, bringing together leadership and contract professionals from across the organization. Addressing the participants, Chairman Shri P.M. Prasad highlighted Coal India’s pioneering role in GeM procurement and emphasized the company’s significant engagement with e-procurement platforms. He underlined the importance of timely discussions, transparent consultations, and proactive engagement to ensure successful contract execution. He also reinforced that contract management is a dynamic and evolving discipline, where continuous learning from professionals at all levels is essential.

Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak, stressed the need for well-defined guidelines and effective implementation to minimize legal disputes, while noting that timely contract closure plays a pivotal role in advancing the government’s Ease of Doing Business goals. CVO Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy also spoke on the growing relevance of the subject in the current landscape and expressed confidence that training by distinguished faculty from IIM Calcutta, namely Prof. R. Rajesh Babu and Prof. Megha Sharma, would equip participants with contemporary insights. The session was attended both in person and virtually by officials from across Coal India’s subsidiaries, reinforcing a unified approach to improving contract management practices.
