In a significant stride towards India’s nuclear energy future, Engineers India Limited (EIL) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 12th August 2025, for engineering services related to the conceptual design and development of the Bharat Small Modular Reactor (BSMR). This initiative marks a pivotal step in advancing India’s nuclear energy capabilities and aligns with the nation’s broader energy security goals.
The MoU was formally signed in Mumbai by Director (Commercial), EIL, and Director (Technical), NPCIL, in the esteemed presence of Mrs. Vartika Shukla, CMD of EIL, and Shri B.C. Pathak, CMD of NPCIL, along with senior management representatives from both organizations.
This collaboration exemplifies the Government of India’s commitment to accelerating nuclear power deployment, fostering a clean, green, and reliable energy ecosystem. The BSMR project is a key component of the Nuclear Energy Mission under Viksit Bharat, aiming to achieve a nuclear power capacity of 100 GW by 2047. The partnership underscores a shared vision to harness innovative nuclear technologies for sustainable development and energy security.
