Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) to undertake a pilot project aimed at enhancing green cover and aesthetics at selected locations, including central verges, areas under station structures, and other suitable spaces along metro corridors.
The MoU was signed on Tuesday in the presence of Dr. CH. Srinivasa Rao, Director ICAR – IARI and Sh. Manuj Singhal, Director (Infrastructure), DMRC. Senior officers of both the organisations were also present, during the event.
Under the MoU, ICAR-IARI will provide technical guidance on the selection of plant species suitable for harsh and low-light conditions, having low watering requirements, along with suitable maintenance practices and periodic evaluation during the pilot phase.
The pilot project will be implemented for one year. All horticulture assets created will vest with DMRC, and project outputs will be used for internal evaluation and future planning.
This initiative reflects DMRC’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
