Digital Walkthrough Featuring Virtual Reality (VR) Film inaugurated at SAIL RSP

Keeping in view the safety of the visitors and give them an immersive experience of the steel making process without visiting the shop floor, a Digital Walkthrough featuring an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) film was inaugurated by Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC), at the Virtulab of L&D Centre of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant on 28th September, 2024.  Present on the occasion were Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works), Mr. Anil Kumar, CGM In-Charge (MM), Dr. Jayant Acharya, CMO In-Charge (M&HS), several other CGMs, HoDs and senior officers of the plant. Notably the VR film showcases the plant’s state-of-the-art technology and operational excellence, marking a significant leap towards integrating digital advancements in the steel manufacturing sector.

Digital Walkthrough Featuring Virtual Reality (VR) Film inaugurated at SAIL RSPSpeaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhowmick praised the initiative, stating, “This digital walkthrough will go long way in educating the fresh joinees as well as the visitors without venturing into the shop floors as well as ensuring their safety. The use of AR and VR in this digitalization era shows we are walking with time and are conscious about our visitor’s safety.”

This interactive digital experience offers a comprehensive view of RSP’s various production units, from raw material handling to finished product dispatch, providing a 360-degree insight into the plant’s functioning through detailed 3D visualizations or stimulations. The VR film will also help visitors to virtually explore the plant’s vast expanse, enhancing understanding of the intricate processes behind steel production.

Notably, the project was initiated by E&A Department at the cost of Rs. 1.22 Crores. Mr. S C Patra, CGM (I&A) welcomed the dignitaries while Mr. Anup Kumar Jena, GM In-Charge (E&A) coordinated the VR film watching process. Mr. Vikram Grandhi, Senior Manager, (E&A) presented a formal vote of thanks.
