Daughter of RSP employee wins accolade in International Competition

Miss Aradhana Sahoo, daughter of Mrs. Manjulata Sahoo and Mr. Pradipta Kumar Sahoo, Master Operator, FM (M) department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has brought laurels to the Steel City and the country by bagging the third prize in the SDC International Design Competition held at London on 7th November, 2024. The competition was organised by The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC), a 140 year old reputed British Organisation. The theme of the competition was ‘Colour for Good’. Notably, the SDC International Design Competition is renowned for bringing together students, researchers, industry professionals, and designers from around the world to give undergraduate students a platform to showcase their creativity and vision on an international scale.

Aradhana, a highly creative, and enthusiastic textile designer, is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Design at the School of Fashion Technology in Pune. She was adjudged the India Regional Heat Winner, qualifying her for the international competition. Notably, her entire expenses of participation, travel, boarding, etc were borne by the organizers.

In the international competition, this promising designer presented a project addressing sustainability challenges in the textile supply chain. She transformed discarded and leftover waste into aesthetically appealing products by applying various surface ornamentation techniques. Her designs have broader utility and target industries such as lifestyle, accessories, and automotive.

Notably, Aradhana is a proud alumnus of Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20 of RSP, where she studied from Class I to XII.
