The Ministry of Coal has reported a strong increase in coal production for October 2024, achieving a total output of 84.45 million tonnes (MT). This marks a 7.48% rise from the 78.57 MT recorded in October 2023. Production from captive mines and other entities saw substantial growth as well, reaching 16.59 MT in October 2024, up from 11.70 MT in the same month last year, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 41.75%.
For the fiscal year through October 2024, cumulative coal production rose to 537.45 MT, up from 506.56 MT during the same period in FY 2023-24, achieving a growth rate of 6.10%.
Coal dispatches also posted notable gains in October 2024, totaling 82.89 MT—a 4.60% increase over the 79.25 MT dispatched in October 2023. Dispatches from captive mines and other sources rose significantly to 16.18 MT, up from 11.83 MT in October 2023, indicating a growth rate of 36.83%. Cumulatively, coal dispatches for FY 2024-25 (up to October) reached 571.39 MT, marking a 5.52% increase from the 541.51 MT recorded in the same period of FY 2023-24.
