KOLKATA. At the Chintan Shivir, Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy delivered a detailed keynote address, calling on coal companies to move decisively from intent to execution with clearly defined timelines for reform. He stressed the need for optimal utilisation of coal reserves, strengthening the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) framework, fast-tracking First Mile Connectivity projects, improving coal quality through washeries, and ensuring effective deployment of idle equipment and assets to enhance operational efficiency.
Underscoring the strategic importance of the Chintan Shivir, the Minister placed strong emphasis on coal gasification and diversification as key drivers of future growth. He also highlighted the productive use of decoaled land for developing industrial parks and water bodies, along with completing scientific mine closure activities within the next two years. These measures, he said, are critical to reinforcing India’s energy security while ensuring sustainable and environmentally responsible growth in the coal sector.
