Biggest jump in COVID-19 count

India witnessed a new peak with the states registering 12,881 fresh cases in a single day — the highest so far. The total number of coronavirus patients in the country zoomed to 366,946. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi — three worst-affected states — continued to record high number coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Uttar Pradesh and Haryana recorded the biggest jump in COVID-19 count on Wednesday.

Meanwhile govt claimed The recovery rate rises to 52.80%. Currently, 1,55,227 active cases are under medical supervision. The number of government labs has been increased to 674 and private labs has been increased to 250 (A total of 924) for testing. In the last 24 hours, 1,63,187 samples were tested. The total number of samples tested thus far is 60,84,256.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also held the second part of two day interaction with Chief Ministers via video conferencing to discuss the situation post Unlock 1.0 and plan for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister observed that the spread of the virus is greater in certain big states and cities. High density of population, difficulty in maintaining physical distancing and daily movement of people in huge numbers has made the situation challenging, yet through patience of citizens, readiness of administration and dedication of corona warriors, the spread has been kept under control.

Through timely tracing, treatment and reporting, the number of those recovering is rising, he said. He added that the discipline shown by people during Lockdown has prevented the exponential growth of the virus. He talked about the need to fight rumours of lockdown, mentioning that the country is now in phase of Unlocking. We need to now think about phase 2 of Unlock and how to minimize all possibilities of harm to our people, he said.

The death toll in the country jumped to 12,237. At least 334 people succumbed to death in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday, India saw a huge jump in COVID-19 fatalities. Maharashtra and Delhi added over 1,600 deaths related to COVID-19 which were not reported earlier.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all “to not panic as more and more people are recovering from the deadly infection.”

Maharashtra saw a huge jump in COVID-19 tally on Wednesday. Over 3,300 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The state’s COVID-19 count reached 116,752. On Wednesday, at least 114 coronavirus patients died in the state.
