In Mumbai, a unique Ganesh Utsav celebration is blending devotion with divine storytelling. A city banker, Krunal A Mehta along with his wife and daughter, has recreated the epic saga of Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan— alongside the grandeur of Lord Ganesh’s darbar — at his home in Lokhandwala, Kandivali.
Krunal has been decorating his home with special themes for over 2 decades. This is there 21st year of thematic Ganesh celebration, which shows sheer dedication and infinite love for Ganesha. This year’s concept draws inspiration from the belief that every auspicious journey begins with Lord Ganesh’s blessings — just as Lord Ram is said to have invoked and worshipped Bappa before embarking on his Lanka conquest.
The thematic decorations include eco friendly home materials, handcrafted wooden sets, models of forests, mountains, Indian Ocean, beach and even the legendary Ram Setu, bringing the Ramayana to life in both model and digital form. His wife and daughter actively contribute to the effort, and together the family has also built a remarkable collection of over 100+ Ganesh idols, carefully displayed during the festival and throughout the year.
Speaking about the theme, Krunal says: “At a time when the world is witnessing conflicts, I wanted to remind people that Ram’s Lanka Vijay was not just a war, but a triumph of good over evil, also celebrates the unwavering valor of Hanuman. War for the right purpose is Dharma.
To extend the experience, Krunal offers darshan through various digital mediums, allowing devotees across India and abroad to view the darbar online. Every year, relatives and friends eagerly wait to witness his creativity and experience the sheer energy, which has now become a highlight of his Ganeshotsav celebrations
