The All Odisha Chess Championship-2025 organised by the Sports Unit of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) concluded on 23rd March, 2025 at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector-5. Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (TA & CSR) was the Chief Guest while Mr. B.K.Jojo, CGM (TE & Horticulture) was the Guest of Honor in the concluding function and presented the awards to the winners and runners up of the tournament. Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-Charge (TS & Sports), Mr. G. C. Mohapatra, Former President, AOCA and other Officers of RSP were present on the occasion.
Karjee Manindra from Gajapati district was the champion of the tournament. Badamundi Tapan of Gajapati district was the 1st Runners-up and Sumit Samantaray of Jajpur district was the 2nd Runners-up of the overall event. In the Event-B, Debapriya Biswal of Rourkela was the winner while Sarthak Mohanty from Khordha and Hrudesh Panigrahi from Ganjam were the runners-up and 2nd runners-up respectively. Prizes were also given to all the winners and runners-ups of all the categories from Under-5 to Under-15 in both the categories. Similarly, Rabindra Sahu from Kalahandi was the winner of Veteran category while Hemant Kumar Panigrahi from Kalahandi was the runners-up. Top 3 ranks from Rourkela were also awarded in the event. Cash award of Rs. 85,000/- were awarded among the rank holders and winners.
Notably, around 240 Players from different parts of the state took part in the championship The matches were played in Under-5, Under-6, Under-7, Under-8, Under-9, Under-10, Under-11, Under-14, Under-15 and Veteran categories for Open, Boys & Girls groups. Mr. Raghunandan Padhi, Deputy Manager (Sports) coordinated the event.
