Airbus partners with Tata Group to set up India’s first helicopter Final Assembly Line in the private sector

Airbus Helicopters and Tata Group are collaborating to establish India’s first private sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for helicopters, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The FAL, producing Airbus’ popular H125 helicopter, aims to bolster self-reliance under the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ program. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will join Airbus in setting up the facility, contributing to the nation’s aerospace ecosystem. The FAL, expected to start deliveries in 2026, will enhance regional connectivity, disaster management, and tourism, marking a significant stride in India’s helicopter manufacturing capabilities.

  1. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “The Tata Group is delighted to set up India’s first helicopter assembly facility in the private sector. This facility will have the final assembly line in partnership with Airbus for the world’s bestselling Airbus H125 single engine helicopter for the Indian as well as export markets.”

The H125 is the only helicopter to have landed on Mount Everest, demonstrating its agility in operating in high altitude, extreme environments.

The proposed helicopter manufacturing facility will be the second FAL to be established in India by Airbus, leveraging TASL’s capabilities in aerospace and defence. The two companies are building the C295 military transport aircraft FAL in Vadodara, Gujarat.
