KOLKATA. Coal India Limited (CIL) and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Private Limited (AMNS India) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to explore the utilisation of synthetic gas (syn-gas) from a proposed coal gasification facility near AMNS India’s Paradip pellet plant in Odisha. The proposed facility is expected to be integrated with Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technology.
The collaboration will initially assess the project’s technical and commercial feasibility, implementation modalities and potential applications of syn-gas. CIL is considering establishing the gasification facility adjacent to or at the Paradip plant. The companies will also prepare a Preliminary Feasibility Report. Details regarding project capacity, investment, technology, coal source, timeline and equity structure have not yet been disclosed.
