BILASPUR. Coal India Limited, the world’s largest coal producer, has intensified its preparations for a major transformation in its human resource and industrial relations framework by launching a systematic rollout of the four new Labour Codes. In a formal letter issued to the Chairman-cum-Managing Directors of all subsidiary companies—including ECL, BCCL, CCL, NCL, SECL, WCL, MCL, and CMPDIL—Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director of Human Resources at Coal India Limited, provided detailed instructions emphasizing the need for robust coordination across all departments to ensure effective implementation.
These new regulations, which include the Wages Code 2019, Industrial Relations Code 2020, Social Security Code 2020, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code 2020, became effective on November 21, 2025, and consolidated 29 previously existing labour laws. To ensure compliance, the company has issued key directives requiring all subsidiaries to organize comprehensive training and awareness sessions involving HR, Legal, and Safety officers, while maintaining positive communication with trade unions and contractual workers’ representatives to prevent misunderstandings.
Additionally, dedicated teams will be formed within each subsidiary to review existing processes for full compliance, and a senior-level Nodal Officer will be appointed to submit monthly progress reports to the headquarters by the 10th of every month, ensuring a highly successful and seamless transition into this new regulatory framework.
