Doctors of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), has successfully treated a critically ill patient diagnosed with acute severe pancreatitis complicated by severe alcohol withdrawal.
The patient arrived in critical condition requiring immediate intervention. The Gastroenterology team, led by Dr. P. K. Mohapatra, Senior Specialist Consultant & former CMO (M&HS) and Dr. Monalisa Mohanty, Senior Consultant (M&HS) swiftly diagnosed the acute pancreatitis and implemented effective management strategies. Meanwhile, the Critical Care team, under the leadership of Dr. Sanjukta Panigrahi, Additional CMO (M&HS) & In-charge (CCU) and Dr. PJ Roy, Senior Divisional Medical Officer (M&HS) delivered round-the-clock intensive care, including meticulous monitoring and evidence-based interventions to stabilize the patient.
A pivotal element in this success was the ICU nursing team’s exceptional performance. Led by Senior Nursing Sister Shiny Gorge and Nursing Sister Anita Jena, the nurses demonstrated outstanding vigilance, clinical expertise, and compassionate bedside care, which proved decisive in the patient’s stabilization and recovery.
Following clinical improvement, the patient will transition to a structured de-addiction and rehabilitation program through IGH’s Mental Health Department, ensuring long-term holistic support.
