The Indian Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD) and Carbon Minus India New Delhi (IISD CMI) successfully hosted the Global Sustainability Summit 2025 (GSS’25) at Vigyan Bhawan recently, where industry leaders gathered to discuss and drive sustainability initiatives. A focal point of the summit was the CMDs & CXOs Roundtable, featuring insights from Shri Rajeev Gupta, Managing Director of RSWM Limited, who underscored the textile industry’s pivotal role in advocating for environmental responsibility.
During his presentation, Shri Gupta elaborated on RSWM’s comprehensive strategies aimed at promoting sustainability, including the company’s impressive 100% zero liquid discharge system, which guarantees complete water recycling. He also announced RSWM’s ambitious plan to replace 50% of its fossil fuel usage with biofuels by 2026, a move that demonstrates their commitment to innovative energy solutions.
With a focus on renewable energy, RSWM has already achieved a commendable 27% of its power consumption from sustainable sources. The company is also at the forefront of sustainable fiber production, processing approximately 55,000 metric tons of PET fibers annually to mitigate plastic waste and contribute to a circular economy.
Shri Gupta emphasized that integrating sustainability into every facet of industry operations is crucial, positioning RSWM as a leader in eco-friendly innovations within the textile sector.
The Roundtable was graced by distinguished participants, including Ashwani Bhatia, Whole Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI); Geetu Joshi, Adviser on International Economic Relations at the Indian Ministry of Finance; and Dr. Srikanta K. Panigrahi from IISD-CMI, among others. Their presence signified a collective commitment to advancing sustainability across various industries.
The summit reaffirmed the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving sustainable growth, urging industries to embrace eco-friendly practices for a more sustainable future.
