‘Span of Attention Crisis and How Digital Media is Affecting Learning’

Sh. Anup Kumar, former IAS Officer delivered an insightful session on ‘Span of Attention Crisis and How Digital Media is Affecting Learning’ in the Faculty Induction Program (FIP) for newly recruited academic staff of NCERT at IIM, Nagpur recently. His discourse underscored how digital advancements, while providing numerous benefits, have simultaneously led to a significant decline in students’ attention spans, posing a major challenge to traditional education.

He highlighted that the widespread availability of digital devices, coupled with affordable internet—driven by various initiatives has transformed the way students access information. He noted that students today exhibit a fickle mindset, shorter retention abilities, and an increasing dependency on quick, dopamine-driven learning methods. This has made traditional teaching approaches seem less appealing, prompting the need for teachers to adapt their pedagogy. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A
