Vishakha Toppo, daughter of Mrs. Jayashree Toppo and Mr. Charo Toppo, MOMT (Oxygen Plant) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has brought laurels to the city by winning Gold in Girl’s Team Event in Yonex- Sunrise- 47th Inter State – Inter Zonal and Junior National Badminton Championship – 2024. She also won Gold Medal in mixed Double Junior National Badminton Chamionship -2024.
In the Girl’s Team event Vishakha paired with Pragati Parida to beat the opponent and win the finals. In Mixed Doubles she paired with Lalramsanda C of Mizoram.
Earlier in June 2023 she had won the Girl’s Doubles, Under – 17, Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2023 held at BBD UP Badminton Academy, Lucknow, UP. She also became runners-up in the Mixed Doubles Under – 17.
In December 2022 she won the Under – 17 Mixed Doubles in the Yonex Sunrise 34th Sub Junior National Badminton Championship 2022 held at KIIT, Bhubaneswar.
With the encouragement of her father and an athlete aunt, Vishakha, a student from Ispat English Medium School, Sector – 20 is pursuing her passion for badminton since the year 2019. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic Vishakha continued her pursuit and made her debut in the wider arena by playing the 1st national match in January 2022 at Chandigarh followed by International match held at Pune.
