SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has trained 50 Dengue Control Volunteers from across the Plant as an emergency vector control measure to curtail transmission of Dengue virus in the township. Mr. P K Swain, CGM (TA & CSR) presided over the training programme held at Town Engineering Conference Hall on 18th July 2024. Present on the occasion were Mr. B K Jojo, GM In-charge (Town Engineering). Around 50 volunteers from across the plant have been deployed with Public Health Unit of Town Engineering Department to help conduct the house to house survey and awareness for prevention of dengue.
During the training programme Dr. Deepa Lavangare, Deputy CMO (TE-Public Health) provided an in-depth knowledge about dengue fever and other mosquito borne diseases, the signs, symptoms and primary preventive measures to reduce dengue infections. The survey formats and the compilation procedures were also explained in detail leading to the development of a comprehensive action plan. The training programme was coordinated by Mr. R Pradhan, Junior Officer (Public Health).
Notably, the group has been divided into 14 teams and each of the team has been assigned with a specific sector to conduct the survey and educate the residents about different preventive measures especially the ‘Dry day Observation’ that is encouraging people to keep their air coolers, flower pots and artificial water collection sites, dry once a week. During the household visit the volunteers are expected to destroy the potential breeding spots of the mosquitoes. As per the action plan the team leaders would meet on a daily basis to discuss and review the activities with Public Health Department team. The volunteers would be associated with the Public Health Unit for next fifteen days ensuring complete survey of the each and every household in the township.
