KATHMANDU. There is a high possibility that 46 workers trapped inside a room-like structure at Nepal’s Rasuwagadhi hydropower plant may still be alive, a Nepal Electricity Authority official said on Wednesday. Amshu Kiran Shahi said rescuers are confident the workers could have survived for a week as they are believed to have access to food and water inside the structure. The workers were trapped after deadly flash floods triggered by a glacial collapse near Nepal’s border with China swept through hydropower projects with ice, rocks, mud and debris. Nepali, Indian and Chinese rescue teams are continuing operations to locate those trapped in tunnels, while authorities have so far rescued 279 people and 639 others remain missing.
