In a significant initiative to empower grassroots democracy, the Government of India has invited around 400 Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) and Elected Representatives (ERs) of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) as Special Guests to the 78th Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort on August 15, 2024. These representatives will also attend a National Workshop on Women’s Leadership in Panchayats at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, on August 14, addressed by Dr. Kiran Bedi.
Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and S. P. Singh Baghel will felicitate the invitees at a ceremony, where the multilingual eGramSwaraj platform and the State/UT-wise Panchayat Profile will be launched. The representatives will also visit the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya on August 14 to learn about India’s democratic journey. Their participation in the Independence Day event is aimed at fostering pride and patriotism among grassroots leaders.
