The 15th edition of the Ispat Synergy Cup Cricket Tournament of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) commenced at the Ispat Stadium on 17th February, 2025. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), RSP inaugurated the Tournament. Present on the occasion were Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), several Chief General Managers and Senior Offices of the Plant.
It is worth mentioning here that Ispat Synergy Cup Cricket Tournament is an inter-departmental cricket tournament organized every year by RSP as an employee engagement initiative to enhance cohesiveness and team spirit amongst the employees.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Tarun Misra conveyed his best wishes to each of the participants and encouraged all to foster a healthy sporting and team spirit during the tournament. He lauded team RSP for its outstanding performance, not only in production, making it one of SAIL’s top-performing units, but also in excelling across various domains, including sports. Mr. Misra highlighted the importance of such events which bring people together and strengthens the synergy.
Mr Misra and Mr. Palai both batted and bowled to mark the commencement of the tournament.
Earlier, ED(HR) unfurled the Sports Flag and formally declared the tournament open. The programme commenced with the rendition of the SAIL Anthem. Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In Charge (TS & Sports) welcomed the gathering. Mr. Anil Mallick, MOMT, SSM coordinated the opening ceremony.
17 teams are in the fray in the 15th edition and will play in a knock-out format in the 15 overs a side tournament. The final will be played on 25th February.
In the first match of the tournament, the Services & Utilities team defeated the team comprising BIM,KIM & TIM by 10 wickets. Md. Ajmul Huda of the Services & Utilities team who claimed 4 wickets in his impressive spell was named the Man of the Match.
