World Alzheimer’s Day: Tips to keep your brain active and healthy

Quote from Dr. Gorav Gupta , Co- Founder of Emoneeds

Dementia, an umbrella term encompassing the progressive erosion of memory, cognitive capabilities, and decision-making skills, is an escalating global concern. Among the diverse manifestations of
dementia, Alzheimer’s disease looms largest, marked by the relentless decay of brain tissues and the demise of vital brain cells. As India’s population ages at an unprecedented pace, the nation braces for a
significant surge in individuals grappling with dementia and Alzheimer’s. By 2030, experts anticipate this number to reach a startling 7.6 million, underscoring the pressing need for heightened awareness,
support systems, and effective strategies to confront this looming public health crisis. Although an ultimate cure remains elusive, individuals can take proactive steps to preserve brain health and mitigate
the risk of cognitive decline.

Nurturing Brain Health: Essential Practices

To nurture cognitive vitality and promote brain well-being, it’s essential to engage in intellectually stimulating pursuits such as reading and puzzles, fostering the brain’s adaptability. Equally crucial is prioritizing a balanced diet that includes foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins like fish, nuts, leafy greens, berries, and whole grains. Simultaneously, being mindful of alcohol intake and limiting processed foods helps shield the brain from potential harm. Consistently engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise each week enhances cerebral blood flow and encourages neural growth. Embracing 7-9 hours of revitalizing sleep nightly supports memory consolidation and detoxification. Skillfully managing stress through practices like meditation and yoga
acts as a protective barrier, reducing cortisol levels and fortifying the brain against prolonged harm.

Importance of World Alzheimer’s Day

World Alzheimer’s Day is a crucial global event that shines a spotlight on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, which impact countless individuals and their loved ones across the world. It’s a chance to break down stereotypes, promote empathy, and stress the significance of identifying and addressing these conditions early on. Furthermore, it galvanizes communities, healthcare experts, researchers, and policymakers to join forces in the battle against Alzheimer’s and dementia, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for affected individuals and working towards the discovery of successful treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
