“Teachers are the true heroes who shape our future and deserves our deepest appreciation,” said Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) while addressing at the colourful Teachers’ Day programme organized by the Town Services-Education unit of RSP at Civic Centre on 5th September. The celebration was organised to pay tribute to Bhrat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the 2nd President of India and legendary teacher, and a visionary leader, on his Birth Anniversary.
Mr. Bhowmick was the Chief Guest while Prof. Dr. Raja Kishore Paramguru, Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar was the Keynote Speaker. Present on the occasion were Mr. S R Suryawanshi, ED(Works), Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), with additional charge of ED (Projects), Mr. Anil Kumar, CGM I/C (MM), Dr. Jayant Acharya, CMO I/C (M&HS), Mr. P K Swain, CGM (TA&CSR), Dr. S Tripathy, Principal, IVM, Sector-19, Ms. Sushreeta Das, Principal, (IEMS, Sector – 20), and many other senior officers of RSP, and a large number of teachers and students of Rourkela.
The Chief Guest along with other guests inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the ceremonial lamp and paying floral tributes at the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
In his address, Mr. Bhowmick stressed upon the immense role a teacher plays in shaping the future generations of the country. “Technology, social media, and communication are changing the roles of teacher in the digital world. Teachers and students need to be empowered accordingly,” said the DIC.
Dr. Paramguru started his address with recitation of Guru Vandana and highlighting its meaning and importance. He also shared his experience of celebrating the 1st Teacher’s Day in 1962. “Never fear to ask questions as asking questions will give solutions to many unsolved mysteries as it happened with Newton” he said while advising students and emphasizing on Inquire based learning system.
The DIC felicitated Dr. Paramguru and 96 former teachers and principals from various schools of Rourkela for their contributions in grooming the future citizens of the country. Mr. Bhowmick also presented the 32 Best Academic Performance Award to the Top ranking students of Rourkela.
The programme commenced with a welcome song ‘Guru Vandana’ by the students Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20 that set the tone of the programme. Master Pragyan Ranjan Barik, student of class -XI, IEMS, Sector-20 welcomed the gathering while Miss Sanchita Panigrahi of Ispat Vidya Mandir, Sector-19 introduced the guests. Ms. Subhasmita of Ispat Vidya Mandir, proposed a Vote of Thanks. Master Mohit Panda from IEMS, Sector-20 anchored the event. The programme concluded with a colourful cultural programme by the students of Ispat English Medium School and Ispat Vidya Mandir.
