~ Dawn of the new era in skills development in the country ~

New Delhi, November 29, 2023: The Government of Andhra Pradesh with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Cooperation (APSSDC) is building a groundbreaking Skill Cascading Ecosystem. The state Government aims to target over 20 million people in the state in the next fifteen years to meet the skilled human demands and make Andhra Pradesh the knowledge hub of the world.

With 26 skill colleges and 192 hubs across the state, 55 industries have joined hands with APSSDC as ‘skill spokes’ to train youth according to their specific requirements. The goal is to position Andhra Pradesh as a national and global leader in skill development. As part of the Skill International initiative, the APSSDC is facilitating opportunities for skilled youth in foreign countries.

Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy will be launching a range of initiatives in Vishakhapatnam, amongst which the ‘AP Skills Universe application’ is one among them.

The Andhra Pradesh Government is investing over INR 100 crores to modernize and rebrand 83 Government industrial training institutes (ITIs), 87 polytechnic colleges, and 26 skill colleges as industry cum training centers. The unwavering commitment to skill development aims to empower our youth, making them not only nationally but also globally competitive. Together, the Government departments are aiming to build a future where the workforce is equipped to excel in the dynamic landscape of industries, contributing significantly to the state’s and the country’s growth.

According to Sri S Suresh Kumar I.A.S., Principal Secretary of Skills Development and Training Department, “The Cascading Ecosystem IS a first-of-its-kind integrated model designed to address shortcomings in existing skills development programs. It aims to provide holistic training aligned with future industry needs.”

AP Skills Universe is a one stop digital portal for all skills development related activities in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Candidates who are seeking training in different skills or looking for job opportunities can register on the portal for the same.

Principal Secretary to the Government, Shri S Suresh Kumar elaborated on the same and said that “A unique feature provided by the AP Skills Universe platform is that it will allow the job providers to register on the same platform as well, which will make it easy for job seekers to get in touch with them.”

One of the beneficiaries of the initiative, a dedicated Mechanical Engineering student from SV Colleges extends heartfelt thanks to APSSDC for transforming his career. Through APSSDC, he secured his first job, gained crucial technical skills, and earned a globalized Dassault Systems certification, enhancing his resume significantly. He expresses gratitude for the wonderful opportunity provided by APSSDC, highlighting the pivotal role it played in his successful placement journey. His experience reflects the positive impact of APSSDC’s Skill Cascading Ecosystem in preparing Andhra Pradesh’s youth for a competitive and globally relevant future.

This story is just one testament to the lakhs of lives the Andhra Pradesh Government’s skills development initiative is changing every day, hence proving the fact that the Andhra Pradesh government is on the right path.

New Delhi; November 21, 2023: – Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL), one of India’s leading fashion companies, proudly announces the culmination of the Sustainability Accelerator Program 2023, a collaborative project with 1 Million for 1 Billion (1M 1B). The program, held in November 2023, demonstrated ABFRL’s commitment to build green skills and empower Indian students while nurturing the talents required to carry our collective sustainability mission forward.

Each of the participants were presented with co-branded ‘Certificates of Participation’ from ABFRL and 1M 1B to recognise their dedication and achievements. The top 20 students chosen for industry engagement at an ABFRL campus were also honoured with diplomas recognising their excellent performance during the 5-day internship.

The Sustainability Accelerator Program 2023 made tremendous progress towards its goals, cultivating a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders. For beginnings, the initiative enabled youngsters to become proactive climate change champions, instilling in them the inspiration and determination to act in their communities. Second, participants acquired significant insights into cutting-edge technology, realising how crucial their role is in crafting a sustainable future. Students had the unique opportunity to apply their knowledge through hands-on activities connected to sustainable technology, bridging the gap between theory, experiential and applied learning. Furthermore, the program provided a platform for mentorship by global experts, allowing students to integrate their original ideas into real solutions, promoting a culture of innovation and creativity.

Dr Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd and Co-Chair of the Green Jobs and Sustainability Accelerator Program, highlighted the program’s significance stating, “The Sustainability Accelerator Program 2023 embodies our commitment to nurturing a sustainability mindset in India’s youth & students and empowering them to drive our collective green mission forward. Through this program, we aim to create a new generation of sustainability champions who will lead the way in shaping a greener future for all. This program provided school students with hands-on experience, moulding them into responsible, people-centred corporate leaders who prioritise the well-being of our society and its inhabitants.”

Manav Subodh, Founder, 1M 1B, was proud to bring this collaboration to life, saying “This is an industry first partnership, where a large corporation, ABFRL and a social venture, 1M 1B is coming together placing sustainability at the core of whatever you do. The internship aims to encourage students to be valuable contributors to climate change and introduce them to how technology can play a role in shaping a greener planet. The students will also be mentored by leaders of ABFRL.”

The unique Internship Program was carefully designed to maximise learning and engagement. Six Learning Days were included in the curriculum, during which participants immersed themselves in instructor-led seminars that delved deep into essential sustainability concepts, innovations, and green skills. Following that, students demonstrated their newly gained knowledge in actual scenarios, exhibiting their skills in addressing real-world sustainability concerns. The program culminated with the Industry Day, an interactive session in which students presented their ideas to industry executives. This forum enabled them to demonstrate their solutions and share vital insights obtained over the program, emphasising the breadth of their knowledge and the effect of their efforts on the sustainable future we seek to create.

Women and disabled being empowered through job opportunities

Employment opportunities have emerged under the Digital India Programme of MeitY

Jobs under the India BPO Promotion Scheme have curbed migration of youth to a great extent

*Muzzafarpur,1st August 2020*: India BPO Promotion Scheme has become a boon for those who had to leave their homes and families in search of a job. Hundreds of youths interested in BPO sector can now find employment in their hometowns. *IBPS is a scheme which runs under the Digital India Program launched by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)*. The Vision India BPO in Muzaffarpur, established under this scheme is a first of its kind organization employing more than 250 youths. Women and disabled have been especially benefitted through this BPO founded in 2016.

According to *Vivek Kumar, the CEO of Vision India*- a company associated with human resource development that runs skill development programs in small towns, “We had always believed in the efficiency of this town`s youth population. We knew they would be capable enough to meet the work requirements in BPO sector once we trained them. But as in the case of all new startups, we were analyzing all the perspectives of this initiative. Our company conducted a survey which revealed that 56% of the employees working in the BPOs running in the metro cities belong to small towns. The main reason behind this was the lack of employment opportunities in these cities. This motivated us to open BPO centres in tier II & III cities and Muzaffarpur is one of them.

IBPS removed all the barriers: Vivek Kumar adds, “Several obstacles came up during the process of opening BPO centres. The financial viability of BPO centres was the biggest challenge we faced. Fortunately, we got to know about the *IBPS implemented by STPI*. Many problems were solved due to the support given to us by STPI. Under this scheme, one can avail a benefit of Rs. 1 lakh per seat, provided they qualify certain standards set by the government. We have employed the youth while benefitting from IBPS. This scheme is not only directly or indirectly providing job opportunities to the youth but also putting a stop on their migration from this region.”

A golden opportunity for women and disabled:

A huge number of youths being employed are women and disabled. Vivek Kumar says, “The parents in small towns are hesitant in sending their daughters away for education or jobs. Due to this, many talented girls are denied the opportunity to get a job or showcase their potentials. This initiative has paved path for many girls to work in the BPO sector and prove their talents. Besides that, many disabled youths are making their futures bright by working at this centre. This initiative also helps in the all-round development of youth. They are trained in a manner that they can work and perform not only in the BPO sector but in any other industry as well.”

What is the aim of IBPS: The aim of IBPS is to create a system through the expansion of ITES/BPO operations. This would boost the development, make the investment easy and attract the industrial world in such regions. *This initiative by STPI and Vision India in Muzaffarpur* has indeed pushed this region ahead in the field of ITES/BPO. It has not only reduced the migration of youth by providing jobs to them but has also socially helped them in carrying out their responsibilities towards their families.
