HYDERABAD. The Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) Hyderabad Chapter celebrated World Radio Day 2026 with a series of vibrant events at Loyola Academy and a national online session under the theme “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a Tool, Not a Voice.” Highlighting the balance between technological efficiency and human connection, the event featured insights from industry veterans like former DDG of All India Radio, C. Rajagopal, and Rev. Fr. B. Peter, who both emphasized that while AI can streamline workflows, the human voice remains the indispensable “soul” of the medium. The celebrations were further enriched by interactive sessions with popular RJs from major FM stations like Magic FM, Radio City, and Big FM, alongside a pan-India virtual panel featuring voices from FM Rainbow and Club FM. Together, they explored radio’s evolving future, reaffirming its role as a trusted emotional bridge in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.

NEW DELHI. Today marks the observance of World Radio Day, an annual event celebrated on February 13th to commemorate the establishment of the United Nations Radio in 1946. This year’s theme, “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice,” highlights the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing radio broadcasting while emphasizing that technology should support, not replace, the human element. To mark the occasion, Akashvani Raipur in collaboration with UNESCO is organizing a World Radio Day Conclave focused on exploring how AI can strengthen content creation, audience engagement, and accessibility, all while preserving the core human voice and editorial judgment that define radio as a trusted medium.

The theme underscores the transformative potential of AI in the broadcasting ecosystem, enabling improvements in content production, archiving, translation, and audience interaction to make radio more inclusive and efficient. At the same time, it reinforces the importance of maintaining the human touch in broadcasting, emphasizing that AI should serve as a support system rather than a substitute for the credibility, editorial integrity, and emotional connection that radio provides. Since its inception in 1936 and subsequent public ownership after independence, Akashvani has grown into one of the world’s largest broadcasting organizations, serving diverse linguistic and regional audiences across India. Private FM stations continue to complement public broadcasting by delivering local entertainment and information tailored to urban and regional communities.

Leaders and officials have extended greetings and highlighted the vital role of radio in society. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan emphasized radio’s importance in disseminating information to the masses and recounted personal experiences of growing up listening to the medium. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan praised radio’s ability to inform, connect, and evolve through digital platforms, calling on everyone to celebrate its enduring relevance and collective efforts to keep it vibrant and accessible. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings, recognizing radio as a trusted voice that has historically delivered timely information, amplified talent, and fostered societal unity. He highlighted the significance of his Mann Ki Baat programme as a testament to radio’s power in strengthening societal bonds and encouraged citizens to share their inputs for the upcoming broadcast. As Raipur prepares to host this year’s celebrations, radio listeners across regions have expressed their appreciation for radio’s role in development and community connectivity, reaffirming radio’s timeless, powerful presence in shaping society.
