Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (HR) of Coal India Limited, reviewed the SWASTH, DMS and Vidhishakti portals developed by its subsidiary Western Coalfields Limited during his visit to the company’s headquarters in Nagpur. Emphasising the growing importance of digital transformation, Dr. Ranjan stated that digitisation is no longer optional but essential for organisations to remain future-ready and competitive. He appreciated the efforts of the teams involved in developing the portals and offered valuable insights and constructive suggestions to further enhance their effectiveness and resilience. As part of his visit, he also toured the multimedia studio, library and other departments, and interacted with employees at the canteen, encouraging open dialogue and engagement. SECL CMD Harish Duhan Given Additional Charge of WCL CMD

NAGPUR. Govt of India has assigned Shri Harish Duhan, CMD of South Eastern Coalfields Limited, the additional charge of cMD of Western Coalfields Limited. The additional responsibility will be effective from February 1, 2026, for an initial period of three months or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Shri Duhan has been serving as CMD of SECL since March 27, 2025, and has over 34 years of experience in the coal mining sector. Under his leadership, SECL has made notable progress in land acquisition, sustainable mining practices, quality coal production and women empowerment. He played a key role in introducing paste-fill technology in underground mines, expanding project land availability, and promoting inclusive workplaces. A mining engineering graduate from Nagpur University, Shri Duhan began his career with WCL in 1989 and has held several senior technical and managerial positions across Coal India subsidiaries.

WCL Achieves 100% Targets in Special Campaign 5.0, Sets Benchmark in Cleanliness and Sustainability

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has achieved 100% targets under Special Campaign 5.0 (2–31 October 2025), cleaning 257 sites covering 5.69 lakh sq. ft. and disposing of 223 metric tonnes of scrap, generating Rs 1.43 crore through recycling. Innovative efforts included E-Waste Collection Kiosks, “E-Waste to Art” workshops for children, installation of bio-toilets, and Safai Mitra Shivir benefiting over 1,250 workers. A women-driven HR Cell at Ekona Mine promoted inclusivity. WCL’s initiatives highlight its commitment to cleanliness, sustainability, and community welfare.

IIM Nagpur Signs MoU with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) to Strengthen Leadership and Management Capabilities

Nagpur, July 17, 2025 | The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) entered into a strategic partnership today by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering professional excellence within WCL through a series of customized Management Development Programmes (MDPs).

The signing ceremony was held at the WCL Headquarters, with the MoU being formalized in the presence of Dr. Hemant Sharat Pande, Director (HR), WCL and Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur. The MoU was signed by Shri U.C. Gupta (GM – HRD) on behalf of WCL and Dr. Alok Kumar Singh, Dean – Executive Education, on behalf of IIM Nagpur.

“This MoU marks a strategic step in advancing leadership excellence in India’s core sectors. IIM Nagpur is committed to nurturing visionary leaders, and our collaboration with WCL reflects our shared mission of driving innovation and sustainable growth through executive education.” Said Dr. Metri.

These Management Development Programmes will focus on key areas such as Strategy, Leadership, Human Resource Development, and Organizational Management, with the objective of enhancing managerial capabilities and preparing leaders for the future challenges of the energy sector.

NAGPUR. Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), in a major CSR initiative, has sanctioned Rs 2.00 Crores for the desilting and cleaning of the Erai River in Chandrapur.

The District Administration, Chandrapur, had initiated a mission from 25th April to 10th June 2025 to desilt the Erai River stretch from Chandrapur City to its confluence with the Wardha River, aiming to prevent monsoon flooding, improve hygiene, and mitigate serious public health hazards caused by water stagnation and pollution.
